He disappeared without a word.
So I started writing to a stranger behind bars.
Meeting Sylas was never supposed to become anything serious. A few messages in a dark romance group turned into late-night conversations. Conversations turned into a date. And before I knew it, the dangerously addictive man I'd met online had found his way into my bed—and under my skin.
Then he vanished. No explanation. No goodbye. Nothing.
So, naturally, I did what any perfectly sane dark romance reader would do. I signed up for a prison pen-pal programme. Except the first letter I received wasn't from anyone I'd chosen.
No name. No answers. Just words that made my pulse race for all the wrong reasons.
I should have stopped replying. Instead, I played along. After all, what's the worst a man can do from inside a prison cell?
Apparently, a fucking lot.
Because the letters become more personal. The gifts start arriving at my door. He knows things about my house that I've never told him. He knows what I buy. He knows where I've been. And somehow… he knows Sylas.
By the time I realise this isn't some twisted little game between strangers, there are cameras around my house, extra locks on my doors, and one terrifying question I can't answer.
If he's locked inside…
who the hell is watching me?
They call me The Shrike. And trust me, sweetheart, I've earned the name.
Men like Darnell Smyth think they're predators.
They see a pretty face, a sweet smile, and a woman willing to follow them home. They think they've found their next victim.
Cute, really.
Because by the time they realise who they're dealing with, it's already too fucking late.
I'm not your typical twenty-nine-year-old woman. I don't spend my evenings scrolling through dating apps, searching for Prince Charming.
I prefer hunting monsters.
Rapists. Murderers. Abusers. The sick bastards who destroy women's lives and walk away without consequences.
I find them. I seduce them. I kill them.
And just like the bird I'm named after, I leave my prey impaled for the world to see.
It's a hobby, really.
Some women collect handbags. I collect trophies from dead men.
But when my latest hunt leads me to a network of powerful men with blood on their hands, I find myself tangled in something far bigger than my usual evening entertainment.
Missing women. Buried secrets. Men who believe their money makes them untouchable.
Oh, how I love proving them wrong.
And just when I think things couldn't get any more interesting, I cross paths with a particularly irritating psychopath.
They call him The Hyena.
He's arrogant, unpredictable, completely fucking unhinged, and apparently incapable of keeping his mouth shut.
He kills for money.
I kill because men like him deserve it.
We have absolutely nothing in common.
Except an appetite for blood.
He thinks my threats are hilarious. I think his head would look lovely mounted on my wall.
And the worst part?
The insufferable bastard seems to enjoy making me angry.
But he should remember one thing.
I'm not some pretty little bird waiting to be caged.
I'm the fucking predator.
The Shrike is Book One of The Carnivore Series, a dark serial-killer romance featuring a morally black female main character, vigilante justice, graphic violence, dark humour, and the beginning of a vicious enemies-to-lovers relationship. This book contains mature and potentially disturbing themes and ends with the romantic storyline continuing into Book Two.
